The CPR is a 3 part process

Step 1 - Do your homework

Find out what problem or outcome you are looking to solve:

  1. Ask who is part of the meeting or event what they need assistance with
  2. Look into the reports of what may be at stake or what impact is happening if something doesn't change
  3. If this is for someone who is leading and/or managing you, find out what outcome they are seeking.

Homework Notes

Step 2 - Make your plan

Always start with your results first, this is based on the homework you did in step 1. These are outcomes you want to create, not the steps you are going to take. This is the feeling, tangible result, or sensation you are looking to achieve.

Results

Purpose

As a single statement, why would you want to create all of these results? This can be as elaborate or as simple as applies to your results. A good test for this would be reading out loud each result, connected to the purpose. I will achieve this result so that this purpose is created. (eg. Every team member will learn something new in the meeting so that our team learns and grows together.)

Context

As a catch-phrase, title, or word, what will keep you focused on achieving this result to accomplish this purpose? This can be a battle cry, a cheer, or a whisper from your intuition of 'back to the plan'. This is personal, and needs to make sense you you. This should excite you, to steer you towards action, and to have this event, meeting, conversation, or action you are taking being something that will make a difference in addressing the issues you discovered in your homework

Agenda or Action Plan

Once you have your clear results, what that will create to happen, and the core context of your actions, we create an agenda. If you want to create the result, you MUST have an action that will cause it to happen. The order of your results doesn't matter, but the order of your agenda does. Ensure the steps you take at the beginning build up a momentum to last through the items at the end. If these steps can be delegated, you have a space to assign bit to the person that will be taking this action. Move the items around until they make sense. Also, estimate the amount of time you feel the step will take. The total of the number of minutes to complete is at the bottom of the column. If you want to provide more notes about the agenda item, open that page, and provide the notes. Aim for the bottom of the Result column to be 100%.

Agenda

Step 3 - Review the actions and progress

Now that you have completed the event, meeting, or action, it is time to review whether you achieved your result or not. The lessons learned about the process many times are more important than whether you created the result in the first place. Determine whether the action taken successfully created the result you were looking for, and get feedback where appropriate to gauge whether it was accomplished or not. This is also a good place to record the feedback for and from the person the item was delegated to.
